Ground-Fault Circuit-Interrupter (GFCI) breaker or outlet are for all 125 V single phase 15 amp and 20 amp outlets. These will be required to be installed in locations that are specific to your homes protection needs. Bathrooms, kitchens, Garages and all accessory buildings that have a floor that is below grade and not intended as use for living. This is not limited to, work areas, storage areas and locations that are used for similar applications. They are also required in outdoor locations. There are however exceptions to this rule; “Receptacles that are not readily accessible.” For example, crawl spaces that are at or below grade. Fire alarm systems or burglar alarm systems  are also not required to GFCI protected. Roof outlet locations are also not required if not accessible. Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter are required in all kitchen areas where receptacles are installed for use in the counter top location. The are required around sinks with in 6′ of the outside edge of sink. Bath tubs, showers or laundry areas apply to the same rule of 6 ft. Exceptions in industrial establishments only under the conditions that only maintenance or qualified personal will be working on or near the outlets or in the type of equipment would be more hazardous in the circuit was interrupted or in the equipment is not designed  with Ground-fault Circuit-Interrupter. Your dishwasher is also required to be GFCI protected in dwelling units. They do make GFCI that trip at a higher surge level for equipment. If you find your GFCI tripping your equipment? You might want to look in to this. GFCI for pool locations are require for pool lights, but are now also required for pool pumps. These are typically a 2-pole 15 or 20 amp breaker. If your having to replace GFCI breakers in your kitchen location and you find your outlet boxes are not large enough to accommodate the size of the GFCI outlet? You can just replace the outlet with a similar outlet and label that outlet with “No equipment Ground” NEC 406.4 (3) Exception
